What the reporting represents
Irkutsk Live tracks public reporting about the Irkutsk incident. Its situation summary distinguishes reported claims, confirmed evidence and context. The flight feature reconstructs documented aircraft movements within its stated historical window. Flight connections do not establish passenger exposure, infections or onward transmission, and omitted destinations may reflect missing records.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Reported | A source reports disease or a possible case, but sufficient primary diagnostic confirmation has not been obtained by this site. |
| Confirmed | A cited public health authority or published laboratory report explicitly confirms a human case at that location. The exact disease form must be stated in the evidence before it is labelled pneumonic plague. |
| Context | A workplace or other location linked in reporting. It is not a separate case or a confirmed exposure site. |
An official's acknowledgement reported by a newspaper is attributed accordingly. It is not treated as a laboratory result. A laboratory employee's illness does not establish a laboratory escape, a biosafety designation or deliberate release.
How numbers are handled
Cases, deaths and contacts are different measures. People under observation, quarantine or precautionary admission are not automatically cases. Unknown values remain unknown. The same person is not counted twice because two locations mention them. Regional contacts are not allocated to individual cities without evidence. The site does not calculate a case fatality rate from these incomplete figures.
News sources
The news service checks English and Russian headline feeds, including direct publisher feeds from BBC, TASS and The Moscow Times, and filters them to a defined publisher list. The international watchlist includes Reuters, AP, BBC, DW, The Guardian and The Moscow Times. Reviewed AFP syndication is also included in the reading list. The Russian-language watchlist includes Interfax, RBC, Kommersant, Meduza, Novaya Gazeta, Fontanka and the state-owned TASS agency. Inclusion is not an endorsement or a guarantee of accuracy. Russian and independent Russian outlets are grouped together geographically, not treated as having identical editorial independence.
A watchlist entry does not mean that outlet has reported this incident. The initial reading list contains only coverage we located; no Reuters, AP or BBC report was verified during the initial review. Headlines obtained from a feed are marked “not reviewed”. Reviewed summaries are written in our own words, and links lead to the original publisher. Russian source summaries may be translated or paraphrased. Follow the original article for precise wording.
Updates and corrections
The page requests fresh headlines and the latest saved situation review when opened and every five minutes while visible. Feed checks may be cached for five minutes. A feed check does not mean the situation summary has been reviewed. The summary displays its own review timestamp, and a notice appears when that review is more than 12 hours old. Background reviews operate only when a review schedule has been enabled.
Updates to the situation summary require a separate source review. The historical flight feature is separately dated and is not refreshed automatically by the news feed. AI assistance may be used to gather, translate and summarise reports; no clinical verification is implied. Conflicting claims are retained as uncertainty rather than silently reconciled. Historical snapshots are retained when a new situation review is saved. An unavailable feed shows a fallback and its age, not invented activity.
Latest developments
The homepage timeline displays reviewed source summaries stored by this site, ordered by source publication date. Scheduled reviews add relevant reporting; a new review does not necessarily mean a new development. The open page checks for updates every five minutes. Official statements are labelled separately from media reports. Reporting and expert commentary do not by themselves establish a diagnosis or transmission. A link lets readers follow @irkutskplague on X; the site does not embed X posts.
Flight records
The feature includes a source-linked route table, downloadable movement records and a coverage file. Its graphic includes only documented actual departures with landed outcomes within the stated window. It is an incomplete reconstruction, not a complete airport movement register. Schedules alone are not evidence a flight operated. Read the feature's methodology for exclusions, time conversion and the uncertain death-time cutoff.
Health sources
General health information is based on the World Health Organization, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Mayo Clinic. These sources explain plague; their inclusion does not imply they have confirmed this incident.
